To those of you who are familiar with bread-making, you will have already noticed the play on words in the title. Whether the title is clever or not is of little importance, for the topic of discussion today is of the upmost importance to every human being that is on the road to the kingdom. The Narrow Path is the path of trial, and self-sacrifice. To refer back to the title, we NEED God to make it through the coming global crisis. Global crisis? At the end of this post will be a link to a free internationally best-selling book, which will explain how to survive the coming time of trouble. “But Christopher”, one may ask, “what good is it to prepare for a future crisis, when I can hardly stand my daily hardships?” The answer to that question is simple: when God kneads you, you need God. Oxford Dictionary defines knead as being to, “work (moistened flour or clay) into dough or paste with the hands” and as to, “make (bread of pottery) by kneading flour or clay.” Interestingly enough, a synonym to the word “knead” is “pummel!” Have you every felt that you were being pummeled by the sheer weight of your trials? The answer again is resoundingly clear: when God kneads you, you need God. How does God knead us? You guessed it, through trials. The Bible makes it clear that God is the potter and we are the clay (Isaiah 64:8, Jeremiah 18:1-6). The Scriptures also teach that, “we are one bread”, a “living epistle”, that demonstrates the principles of the Living “Bread of Life”! (1 Corinthians 10:17, 2 Corinthians 3:1-3, John 6:35) The only way that beautiful pottery is made, is after the clay is pummeled into its proper shape. Bread is only fit to serve, after it has been thoroughly worked, and yes, pummeled, by the baker. Are there times when we feel as though we wish that the kneading would stop? Yes, but recognize that the kneading is fitting you for Heaven! For you cannot make it to Heaven, full of uncooked leaven! Do not ever be discouraged when you feel as though your trials are breaking you, for you are being broken into a better shape, a vessel, a loaf, fit for the kingdom of God! If it makes you feel any better, after the kneading process comes the oven! In the next article, we will cover the kneading found in Genesis 18, and in part three, we will cover the counterfeit kneading in Jeremiah 7! God bless you dear readers, we all need God’s kneading!
