Powers of Speech Sanctified

Call to Worship

Colossians 4:6

4:6 Let your speech [be] alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Powers of Speech Sanctified—

As you arose from the watery grave at the time of your baptism, you professed to be dead, and declared that your life was changed—hid with Christ in God. You claimed to be dead to sin, and cleansed from your hereditary and cultivated traits of evil. In going forward in the rite of baptism, you pledged yourselves before God to remain dead to sin. Your mouth was to remain a sanctified mouth, your tongue a converted tongue. You were to speak of God’s goodness, and to praise His holy name. Thus you were to be a great help and blessing to the church (Manuscript 95, 1906). {7BC 908.7}

A picture is worth a thousand words, and one word is worth a thousand pictures. What you say can have a tremendous impact, good or bad, on those around you, especially the young ones. Christ Jesus used kind words when interacting with the people, even those who wanted Him dead. Love thine enemies He said. These are words of wisdom. When you are baptized and born again, your vow is to be and do as Christ would do. Even when he rebuked someone, he did it with love and kindness. If you follow His example, you will be a great help and blessing to the church.

Dear God,

We thank and praise You for being our great exemplar. For teaching us the way we should go. For giving us the privilege of being heirs to the Royal Family. We pray that as we have surrendered our life to You that You will help us do as You would do and speak as You would speak. To always have a kind word for the people in our life, even those who hate us. We pray for those all over the world that have rejected You to learn of You and repent of their sins and evil ways, to know the truth that they may be saved. We thank You for hearing and answering our prayers, in the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
