DONATION STATEMENT

Statement on How Christ Jesus Ministries Operates

Christ Jesus Ministries is a supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Christian Church and therefore does not accept or request tithe.

Christ Jesus Ministries is a self-supporting ministry that operates in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Spirit of Prophecy. A true self-supporting ministry is not sustained by tithe, but rather by the labor of those who operate the ministry. Ellen White makes it clear that Paul the Apostle, a self-supporting minister, fully supported the work of the church in proclaiming the Gospel, and engaged in a field of labor, particularly that of a tentmaker, to sustain his missionary endeavors. Likewise, those who work at Christ Jesus Ministries sustain themselves with labor and support the ministry. Here are Ellen White’s statements regarding how a self-supporting ministry is to be honestly operated:

In many places self-supporting missionaries can work successfully. It was as a self-supporting missionary that the apostle Paul labored in spreading the knowledge of Christ throughout the world. While daily teaching the gospel in the great cities of Asia and Europe, he wrought at the trade of a craftsman to sustain himself and his companions. His parting words to the elders of Ephesus, showing his manner of labor, have precious lessons for every gospel worker: {MH 154.1}

It is at Thessalonica that we first read of Paul’s working with his hands in self-supporting labor while preaching the word. Writing to the church of believers there, he reminded them that he “might have been burdensome” to them, and added: “Ye remember, brethren, our labor and travail: for laboring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.” 1 Thessalonians 2:6, 9. And again, in his second epistle to them, he declared that he and his fellow laborer while with them had not eaten “any man’s bread for nought.” Night and day we worked, he wrote, “that we might not be chargeable to any of you: not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.” 2 Thessalonians 3:8, 9. {AA 347.2}

Is Paying Tithe and Giving a Donation One and the Same?

No, paying tithe and giving a donation are not one and the same. First and foremost, a tithe is a specified amount of 10% of one’s income. (Leviticus 27:30) A donation can be of any amount, you can choose to donate “bountifully” or “sparingly.” (2 Corinthians 9:6) Secondly, tithing is required by the Old and New Testaments and is a binding practice. (Malachi 3:8-12, Matthew 23:23) The Bible makes it clear that donations can spontaneously be given of one’s free will. (Leviticus 22:21) (Strong’s H5071) In other words, there is no binding commandment to give a donation to a supporting ministry of the church, as they are to support themselves. However, Seventh-day Adventists are to support the organized Seventh-day Adventist church by their tithe, offerings, and personal effort and influence. (Baptismal Vow #9) The Bible says, “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.” - Malachi 3:8-12.

Christ Jesus Ministries’ Statement on the Acceptance of Tithe

As stated in the proceeding paragraphs, Christ Jesus Ministries is a supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Christian Church and does not accept tithe. Thus, we ask that you send your tithe to the Seventh-day Adventist Christian Church.

"God has given special direction as to the use of the tithe. He does not design that His work shall be crippled for want of means. That there may be no haphazard work and no error, He has made our duty on these points very plain. The portion that God has reserved for Himself is not to be diverted to any other purpose than that which He has specified. Let none feel at liberty to retain their tithe, to use according to their own judgment. They are not to use it for themselves in an emergency, nor to apply it as they see fit, even in what they may regard as the Lord's work." {CS 101.1}

"A very plain, definite message has been given to me for our people. I am bidden to tell them that they are making a mistake in applying the tithe to various objects which, though good in themselves, are not the object to which the Lord has said that the tithe should be applied. Those who make this use of the tithe are departing from the Lord's arrangement. God will judge for these things." {CS 102.2}

"One reasons that the tithe may be applied to school purposes. Still others reason that canvassers and colporteurs should be supported from the tithe. But a great mistake is made when the tithe is drawn from the object for which it is to be used—the support of the ministers...." {CS 102.3}

Christ Jesus Ministries officially endorses Cyril Miller's article, "Sending tithe to independent ministries" from Ministry Magazine. Cyril Miller, along with Bill May and Joe Crews, was one of the founders of Amazing Facts. Cyril Miller warned about the dangers of cults that claim to be Seventh-day Adventist and Christ Jesus Ministries stands with Miller's and Amazing Facts' call to forsake these self-proclaimed leaders and uphold the actual Seventh-day Adventist Christian church and Christ Jesus, for it is His image that we are all called to reflect.

Christ Jesus Ministries’ Statement on Donations

God desires that His children have a spirit of charity. (Ps 50:10-11, 1 Corinthians 13) In keeping with this idea, if the Lord puts it on your heart to support the work of Christ Jesus Ministries (CJM), by donation, we appreciate your cheerful generosity. (2 Corinthians 9:6-15) We provide resources, like our videos, audio files, articles, counseling sessions, and welfare work freely because the message of the Everlasting Gospel is not about the making of money. However, if you, out of the desire of your own heart, would like to bless CJM, we would be deeply grateful for a donation.

Your donation is going to make an impact, in one form or another, as it is transformed into resources. The work of CJM takes many forms. CJM produces videos that bolster the faith of viewers in the Bible, as the authenticity and accuracy of the Word of God is confirmed by the information highlighted. CJM’s articles and podcasts tackle questions about the Bible, science, and interrelated subjects. CJM’s publications are designed to provide the information that believers in Christ need to both grow in their faith and effectively share their faith with others. Finally, our work of counseling and welfare is provided freely to those who are emotionally and physically in need. Ultimately, our goal is to help others come to the perfect mold of Jesus, and to dissuade the idolization of man.

The Father is the one who acknowledges the liberality of His children and thus may we share to His glory and for the honor of His Son Christ Jesus. (Matthew 6:1-4)

We thank you again with all of our hearts for your generous donations. May God bless you as He promised:

“He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.”-Proverbs 19:17

"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."-2 Corinthians 9:7

Let us all thank God for His own donation to our world:

“We are to be sure to heed the requirements of Christ, who made Himself a donation to our world.” - Letter 309, 1905.

“How can we better show our appreciation of God’s sacrifice, His great donation to our world, than by sending forth gifts and offerings, with praise and thanksgiving from our lips, because of the great love wherewith He has loved us and drawn us to Himself?” {6T 480.1}
