Call to Worship
Luke 1: 35
1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
The Son of God in a New Sense—
Christ brought men and women power to overcome. He came to this world in human form, to live a man amongst men. He assumed the liabilities of human nature, to be proved and tried. In His humanity He was a partaker of the divine nature. In His incarnation He gained in a new sense the title of the Son of God. Said the angel to Mary, “The power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” While the Son of a human being, He became the Son of God in a new sense. Thus He stood in our world—the Son of God, yet allied by birth to the human race.... {5BC 1114.10}
From all eternity Christ was united with the Father, and when He took upon Himself human nature, He was still one with God. He is the link that unites God with humanity [Hebrews 2:14 quoted] (The Signs of the Times, August 2, 1905). {5BC 1115.1}
From the beginning of time, God the Father and God the Son came to an agreement for God the Son to take on humanity to be the Savior for the human race. Divinity became humanity for our sake, that none should perish but have eternal life. God the Spirit came upon Mary and gave her the honor of birthing the Son of God. Unto us a child was born, unto us a Son was given. He was tempted, in all ways as we are, yet without sin. Through the Son, we can receive the power to overcome sin. Christ Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no man cometh unto the Father but by Him.
Our Father in heaven,
We thank You for the sacrifice You made on our behalf. For giving up divinity for humanity. No greater love is there for one to lay down his life for his brother. For without Your blood, there is no remission of sins. We thank You for giving us Power from on High, that we may overcome sin and be more than just conquerors. We thank You for being our advocate in heaven, our mediator before our Father. We thank You for Your promise that You will come again for Your saints to take home to the heavenly kingdom. Praise be to You and glory in Your name, and it is in Your name, Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
