Call to Worship

Matthew 6:31-33

6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

We are to engage in no business, follow no pursuit, seek no pleasure, that would hinder the outworking of His righteousness in our character and life. Whatever we do is to be done heartily, as unto the Lord. {MB 99.2}

Jesus, while He dwelt on earth, dignified life in all its details by keeping before men the glory of God, and by subordinating everything to the will of His Father. If we follow His example, His assurance to us is that all things needful in this life “shall be added.” Poverty or wealth, sickness or health, simplicity or wisdom—all are provided for in the promise of His grace. {MB 99.3}

We are instructed to put all our trust and faith before the will of God. All our earthly pursuits should be focused on keeping His righteousness in our lives’. Not ours, that would be self- righteousness. God will provide for all our needs. We are not to think and worry about these things, worrying is a sin. Instead, follow the example of Christ Jesus and know that all these things shall be added unto us. Place your worries, your troubles, and all your burdens at the foot of the cross, that by faith and the grace of God, all will be provided for you.

Our Father, God almighty,

We thank You for all your love and Your mercy. For taking care and providing for all our needs in abundance. For allowing us to come to You as our Father to be able to receive Your righteousness and character. For Your continued breath of life. To be able to come to You, not only when we need something, but always as a friend that we may talk to. We thank You for giving us Your bread of life, Your Holy Word that continually sustains us. We thank You for preparing a place for us in Your Kingdom, much more than we could ever imagine here on this earth. You know all of our needs and it is in You that we trust. We thank You for hearing and answering our prayers. In the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
