In commissioning His disciples to go “into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature,” Christ assigned to men the work of extending the knowledge of His grace. But while some go forth to preach, He calls upon others to answer His claims upon them for offerings with which to support His cause in the earth. He has placed means in the hands of men, that His divine gifts may flow through human channels in doing the work appointed us in saving our fellow men. This is one of God’s ways of exalting man. It is just the work that man needs, for it will stir the deepest sympathies of his heart and call into exercise the highest capabilities of the mind.494 {CCh 272.3}
Rightly directed benevolence draws upon the mental and moral energies of men and excites them to most healthful action in blessing the needy and in advancing the cause of God. {CCh 272.4}
Every opportunity to help a brother in need, or to aid the cause of God in the spread of the truth, is a pearl that you can send beforehand and deposit in the bank of heaven for safekeeping. {CCh 272.5}
Who wouldn’t want to have God safekeeping their pearls in the bank of heaven? These pearls get deposited when we use every opportunity to help a brother or when we help to further God’s cause. God has placed means in our hands for us to do this. This is the work that God has appointed for all of us to do. It is our privilege to do this for God and this is one of God’s ways of exalting us. Not only will these means go towards proclaiming God’s gospel truth to the world, it will also be good for our souls.
Our kind and gracious Heavenly Father,
We thank You once again for this privilege to be able to return these donations and offerings unto Your treasury. As You have appointed to us Your work of salvation, we pray that You will bless these means that they may help further Your cause in proclaiming Your gospel truth to the four corners of the world. We pray that You continue to place means in our hands, that these divine gifts may flow through us, and that souls may be saved for Your heavenly kingdom. May our benevolence be good for our souls. We thank You for providing for all our needs and for being so good to us. Save us and forgive us of our sins. We thank You and praise You, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
