Looking Back and Looking Forward

CS - Counsels on Stewardship (1940) Chapter 20— Facing the New Year

What of your stewardship? Have you during the past year robbed God in tithes and offerings? Look at your well-filled barns, at your cellars stored with the good things the Lord has given you, and ask yourselves whether you have returned to the Giver that which belongs to Him. If you have robbed the Lord, make restitution. As far as possible, make the past right, and then ask the Saviour to pardon you. Will you not return to the Lord His own, before this year, with its burden of record, has passed into eternity?—The Review and Herald, December 23, 1902. {CS 97.3}

We are halfway through this year so there is still time to make things right with God this year. It is not too late to return to God that which He has blessed us with. It is wise to store provisions for lean times, but not at the expense of God’s treasury and His people. Some are in need now, and could really benefit from our giving. We may have a little less in our storehouse but by blessing others, we will be blessed as well. We are all stewards of what God has blessed us with and are required to return to God His own. We all need forgiveness.

Our kind and gracious heavenly Father,

We thank You so much for giving us the privilege of being stewards of all that belongs to You. You have filled our storehouses with plenty, and now is the time to share Your blessings with those who have fallen on hard times. We have all faced trials and are grateful for Your help in getting us through our times of trouble. We pray to make things right and make restitution for what we withheld in the past. Help us going forward to return Your own and may it work to help and bless others and further the everlasting gospel. We thank and praise You, in the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
