Call to Worship

Matthew 2: 1- 2

2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

The Lord moved upon the wise men to go in search of Jesus, and he directed their course by a star. This star, leaving them when near Jerusalem, led them to make inquiries in Judah; for they thought it was not possible for the chief priests and scribes to be ignorant of this great event. The coming of the wise men made the whole nation acquainted with the object of their journey, and directed their attention to the important events which were transpiring. {2SP 26.1}

The chief priests and scribes were ignorant of this great event because their desire was to have a great king who would free them from the bondage of the Romans. They did not have their eyes fixed on Jesus and the scriptures, which plainly foretold of what the coming Messiah would do for humanity out of His love for us. Today, we are to be like the wise men, directing the attention of the people to the important events, which are transpiring today. However, we are not to promulgate fear mongering, rather, how to have a loving relationship with Jesus, surrendering our life to Him, and keeping our eyes fixed on Him while we await His second advent. To acquaint and give all of humanity the Blessed Hope that He will return as He has promised.

Our heavenly Father,

We thank You and are so ever grateful for the Word, which was made flesh in the days of Herod, giving us the Blessed Hope that You will return for us. We are sorry that we have sinned against You and pray for Your forgiveness. We pray for Your Spirt and Light, that we may receive Your power, strength and courage to proclaim the everlasting gospel to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people to acquaint and prepare them for Your second advent. Help us to always keep our eyes fixed on You and in constant communion with You that our relationship will increase always, even to the end of time. We pray in the name of Christ Jesus. Amen.
